Department of Law Enforcement

Sgt. Steve Pry was recognized as Deputy of the Year after his involvement in the July 31 search of a suspected first degree murderer in the City of Winter Haven. Sergeant Pry's life was in danger after he executed a tactical ramming technique that stopped the fleeing suspect's vehicle. The suspect consequently shot at Sergeant Pry's patrol car, which caused shattering glass and injury to the deputy. Sergeant Pry was praised for remaining calm and demonstrating his professional ability during a stressful situation.

Department of Detention

Detention Deputy Harold Stafford has received many awards for his outstanding service and dedication to the Polk County Sheriff's Office. Detention Deputy Stafford has developed a 40-hour mandatory training class on the Department of Detention Directives, accomplished the task of creating the Floor Officer Training Program, completed the critical task of revising and updating the Jail Bureau Key Inventory, and assisted in completing the Total Quality Leadership training course. Detention Deputy Stafford has proven time and time again that he is ready to go the extra mile for the Sheriff's Office and fellow employees.

Department of Administration

Lisa Davis has been awarded the 1996 civilian employee of the year for her outstanding efforts in the Identification Section. Lisa took charge of the I.D. Section when the administrator took another position. Lisa kept the section operating with only two trainees to assist. Lisa performed the managerial task for more than four months and had the section up to date in nearly all aspects of the job when a new supervisor was appointed.
