Honor Guard

The Honor Guard is composed of over thirty (30) agency members who voluntarily participate in the various duties of the Honor Guard. Members submit a request to become a member of the Honor Guard and must pass a review board before being accepted on the Honor Guard when openings are available.

The Honor Guard trains monthly to prepare for its assign duties.  Performing as a color guard in many local parades, Law Enforcement Awards Ceremonies, Law Enforcement Appreciation Services, Veterans Day Ceremonies and Polk State College Criminal Justice Academy Graduations are some of the functions that the Honor Guard has attended.

The most stressful of the Honor Guard functions is funerals, especially those of fellow members.  The Honor Guard team is responsible for funeral duties for fallen officers.  These solemn duties include assisting with the coordination of the funeral services, the casket detail, and the 3 shot volley.

Each year the Honor Guard represents the Polk County Sheriff’s Office by sending small contingents to attend funerals of those Law Enforcement Officers that lost their lives in the Line of Duty.
