Fleet Services Section

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office Fleet Services Section is located in Lakeland. Hours of operation are 6:00 a.m. to 5:00p.m. Monday through Friday.

Currently, the Fleet Services Section services approximately 1400 vehicles and other specialty equipment for both mechanical and cosmetic appearances.

The staff for this section of the Sheriff’s Office includes the following personnel:

  • Two Fleet Specialist
  • One Service Writer/Shop Manager
  • One Parts Clerk
  • One Fleet Administrator
  • Five Automotive Technicians
  • Two Automotive Body Technicians
  • One Paraprofessional
  • One Part-time Data Entry Specialist

Technicians hold various ASE certifications including two members who are ASE MASTER certified. All the technicians are EVT (Emergency Vehicle Technician L-1) certified. Combined, the fleet services staff has more than 70 years of experience in the automotive industry.

Throughout FY2014 the personnel processed 7,280 repair orders, equaling 11,186 man hours and 5,608 units serviced or repaired. Sheriff’s Office vehicles traveled over 1.2 million miles in FY2014. In 2014, 40 new patrol vehicles were upfitted and placed in service.

During the end of FY2013 and through FY2014, Fleet Services began testing Propane (LPG) as an alternative fuel in an effort to reduce fuel costs. In a pilot program, 20 Chevrolet Impala pursuit vehicles were converted to Dual-Fuel fleet for testing. When gasoline prices were $3.50 and LPG was $1.80 per gallon, PCSO realized a cost savings of 7 to 11 cents per mile driven.  Conversion costs were $5,500 each with 50% of that investment recovered through a State of Florida Alt-Fuel Rebate Program.
