Jail Correspondence and Visitation 
 

There are many rules that govern the custodial care of inmates. Inmate visitation is no exception. Listed below you will find general visitation information.

Inmate Visitation is held at the following times Monday through Sunday excluding Thanksgiving and Christmas Day:

7:30 am to 10:30 am

12:00 pm to 4:00 pm

5:00 pm to 7:00 pm

 
VISITOR IDENTIFICATION

ADULTS: Either a current and valid:

  •       state identification card
  •       military identification
  •       passport, or
  •       state driver license. 

No photocopies will be honored.

 JUVENILES (under 18 years old): All visiting juveniles must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and present either an original or certified copy of the juvenile’s birth certificate from “The Department of Vital Statistics,” that shows the names of the parents.  Certificates of birth from a hospital and birth certificates stamped “Not a Certified Copy,” or that lack the raised seal, are not considered proper identification. No photocopies will be honored.

If you are not the natural parent, you must also present one of the following:

·          Legal guardianship paperwork or

        A notarized statement containing the following information:  The date of the visit, the name of the juvenile you are bringing, the name of the visitor accompanying the juvenile, the name of the inmate to be visited, and the printed name and signature of the parent granting this juvenile the visit.

 NOTE: INMATES MAY NOT GRANT GUARDIANSHIP FOR THE PURPOSE OF HAVING THEIR MINOR CHILD VISIT THEM.  NOTARIZED STATEMENTS FROM AN INMATE WILL NOT BE HONORED.

Changes in Inmate Mail Delivery

The Polk County Sheriffs’ Office has contracted with Smart Communications to install Kiosks in all housing units to be made available to inmates for outside and internal communications.

The changes are being made to streamline the operations of the Sheriff’s Office, improve communications, and ensure the safety and well-being of inmates and staff.

MailGuard

In order to maintain the security and safety of the inmate and staff, effective November 20, 2017 all inmate postal mail, with the exception of legal mail from a verified attorney, must be sent to the following address:

The Inmates Name and ID number must be clearly printed on the outside of the envelope or postcard to ensure the mail is posted to the current account.

 

All regular inmate postal mail will be scanned into the system and available to the inmates to view their postal mail via the inmate kiosks.

 

Legal Mail- (from attorney on record)

Legal mail shall be clearly identifiable and marked appropriately as legal mail. All legal mail shall be mailed to the following address:

Inmate to Inmate Mail

Inmates are not permitted to correspond with other inmates housed in any Polk County Sheriff’s Office jail. Inmates may correspond to other state and/or local facilities with prior approval of the facility commander of both the sending and receiving facilities.         

Post Cards/Greeting Cards

Correspondence may be written on greeting cards, but cards containing electronic or other non-paper parts, cards which are constructed in such a way as to permit concealment of contraband, or which are larger than 6"x 8" will not be permitted.

All correspondence are reviewed by designated department staff. Sender will be notified of any correspondence that is not permitted.

 

Our Central County Jail Facility visitation entrance is located on the east side of our Facility:
2390 Bob Phillips Road, Bartow, Florida.

 Visitation is by appointment. Call: 863.534.6153

 

Our South County Jail Facility visitation entrance is located at: 1103 U.S.Hwy. 98 West, Frostproof, Florida.


 Visitation is scheduled on a first come/first served basis at the SCJ Visitation Window

Inmate Telephone System:

The PCSO has a collect calling system for inmate use provided by Securus Technologies. The system allows inmates to make collect calls. No incoming calls can be received by the inmates. To establish an account with Securus Technologies, contact them at 1-800-844-6591.

Inmate Money:

On July 7, 2014, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office implemented a new inmate accounting software package.Deposits can be made by any method below:

1.      Deposit funds using a credit/debit card over the internet

-          go to www.smartdeposit.com to create an account to track all of your deposits from the convenience of your home, available 24 hours / 7 days a week

-          keep track of all deposits you have made

-          a convenience fee applies

 

2.      Deposit funds using a credit/debit card over the phone

-          Call toll-free   (866) 394-0490, available 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday           

-     (A convenience fee applies)

3.      Deposit funds using cash and/or a credit/debit card at the new lobby kiosks located at Central County Jail and South County Jail

-          Central County Jail is located at 2390 Bob Phillips Road, Bartow

Hours: Open 24 hours per day

-          South County Jail is located at 1103 U.S. Hwy 98 West, Frostproof

Hours:  Monday – Sunday, 7:30am -10:30am, 12:00pm – 4:00pm, 5:00pm -7:00pm

-          Lobby kiosks accept cash, MasterCard and Visa credit and debit cards

-          a convenience fee applies

Make money orders payable to the inmate and be sure to include his/her booking number. If you do not know the booking number of the inmate, you can look it up here , or call the information line at (863) 298-6200. This will eliminate any problems if more than one inmate has the same name.
