Answers

1. Where do I mail my tag request?
A. We are located at 7115 de Castro Road, Winter Haven, FL 33880

2. How do I get to Animal Control?
A. Our facility is at 7115 de Castro Road, Winter Haven, which is the entrance to the North Central Landfill. De Castro Road is off State Road 540, between Winter Haven and Lakeland. Approximately three (3) miles east of Travis Vocational School and Polk Community College Lakeland campus.

3. What are your hours?
A. Our kennels hours are 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday thru Saturday and our office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday and 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturdays. We are closed on Sundays and all the major holidays.

4. Do you have small animals in your kennel?
A. We have dogs and cats of many sizes and breeds. We recommend that you come and look as our selection changes daily and our adoptions are on a first come, first served basis. Also visit our website.

5. How much is it to adopt?

A. Our adoption fees are as follows: Cats, kittens, and puppies (five months of age and under) are $45.00. Dogs (six months of age and older) are $75.00.

6. Do you give senior discounts?
A. Yes we do. Senior adoptions are $25.00 for dogs and cats of any adoptable age to anyone 55 years and above.

 7. How long do you hold animals?
A. A Healthy stray animals not wearing any identification are held for four (4) days before they are adoptable. Animals wearing a valid tag are held for ten (10) days before they are adoptable. Sick or injured animals are held for a minimum of two (2) hours to prevent suffering.

8. Do you handle wild animals?
A. Fish & Wildlife is who you should call to report nuisance wildlife.

9. Is my animal there?
A. We strongly recommend that you check the kennels in person because, unless the animal is wearing identification, we really have no way of knowing who the animal belongs to or even what breed it may be.  Also, you may check our website.

10. Can you pick up my cat/dog?
A. Not at this time. Owners who wish to surrender their pets may bring them into our kennel at any time during business hours.

11. How much is it to claim my pet from your kennels?
A. This depends upon many things such as why the animal was picked up, how long it has been here, if it is wearing a valid tag, and which extra medical treatments or vaccinations are requested. We charge an impounding fee of $10.00, a boarding fee of $10.00 for each day the animal is here and any medical fees that are applicable.  If the owner chooses to have their pet spayed or neutered while it is at our facility, the boarding and impound fees will be reduced to $2.50 for each day and the pick up.  A citation may also be issued for any violations of the county ordinance, but this fine is not required to be paid before an animal is released.

12. Where can I get a cat trap?
A. Available cat or dog traps may be picked up from our office during business hours for seven (7) days. A deposit of $30.00 for cat traps and "60.00 for dog traps will be required.  The deposit is refunded if the trap is returned with the allotted time. Many of the local feed and farm supply stores rent or sell cat traps, also the SPCA and Humane Society rent traps.  We will pick up animals from any humane trap or confinement.

13. How do I volunteer to help at Animal Control?
A. You would need to call Crime Prevention at (863)534-6677.
