The Polk County Sheriff's Offices Fleet Services Section is located at 2815 Winter Lake Road, south of Lakeland.  Hours of operation are 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Fleet Services Section currently services approximately 1400 vehicles for both mechanical and cosmetic appearances.

The staff for this section of the Sheriff’s Office includes the following personnel:

• Two Fleet Specialists
• One Service Counter Clerk
• One Fleet Administrator
• Five Automotive Technicians
• Two Automotive Body Technician
• One Paraprofessional

Combined, the staff has more than 70 years experience and is ASE certified.

Throughout 2011, the personnel performed 5,000 repair orders.  These repairs equaled 11,814 hours in labor with a parts cost of $1,327,951.00. They strive to reduce the “down time” for vehicles and average 6-8 hours on each vehicle’s time in the maintenance shop.  The body shop averages a one week turnaround.

By performing in house regular maintenance on our vehicles, considerable amounts of money and time are saved.  Routine maintenance is performed every 10,000 miles.

Routine maintenance includes oil change, change of air filters, safety check of critical components, lubricant, and the inspection of brakes, tires and vehicle appearance.  Most repair work is performed in house, except for transmission and major engine repairs that are performed by outside vendors to minimize tying up technicians for extended periods of time.
