The Kenneth C. Thompson Institute for Public Safety (KCTIPS) Academy is headquartered at Polk State College’s Center for Public Safety campus next to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Main Operations Center, in Winter Haven.
The mission of the KCTIPS is to provide professional and responsible training and educational programs to law enforcement, corrections and correctional probation officers. We are proud of the partnerships that have been forged with the various national, state, and local law enforcement agencies to help facilitate our mission.
The Core Values of KTIPS which are Integrity, Respect, Self-Discipline, Service, and Accountability, mirror those of the law enforcement profession. The staff, instructors, and students of KCTIPS pursue excellence everyday through the demonstration of our mission statement and our core values.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said recruits who train at KCTIPS do indeed stand out in numerous ways. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is just one of several law enforcement agencies that partner with KCTIPS.
“Our recruits are simply among the best in the state — we are a model for others to emulate. This is a direct result of the high accreditation standards adopted by our curricula and professional training staff. In our daily lives, we would never consider going for medical care at a hospital that wasn’t accredited, nor would we want our children attending universities that were not accredited. Accreditation means professionalism, it means high standards, it means success.” – Sheriff Judd
