During the early part of April, an unknown middle aged white female, possibly driving a small white 4 door vehicle, has approached homeowners in the Cypress Lakes Subdivision who have listed their homes for sale.  The white female then asks the homeowner to see the interior of the residence.  While inside the residence, the white female removes prescription medication belonging to the victims.  If any suspicious activity is observed or information is developed reference to this incident, please contact Detective Kevin Matheny for the Polk County Sheriff's Office at 577-1623.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office has received several complaints regarding suspected fraudulent letters postmarked from Canada.  The letters, which purport to be from companies located in New York, are accompanied by checks payable to the addressee, normally in excess of $3,500.  The letters direct the recipient to deposit the checks into their checking account and then notify the company via a listed telephone number.  In at least one incident, the check was determined to be fraudulent and funds were fraudulently removed from the victim's bank account.  The Polk County Sheriff's Office cautions everyone about participating in investments that have not been thoroughly researched and validity verified.  Anyone who receives similar type correspondence and is uncertain as to its legitimacy should contact their local law enforcement agency for assistance.  Thank you!
