The Polk County Sheriff's Office has recently noted an increase in the number of vehicle burglaries in the Fort Meade area.  These incidents have primarily occurred in the southeast and southwest areas of the city between the hours of 8:00 am and 8:00 pm.  With the holiday season upon us, criminals use this gift giving time to enhance their illegal endeavors.  The Sheriff's Office encourages each citizen to secure their property and lock their vehicles to help deter criminal activity.  It is recommended that valuables, such as gifts and purses, be secured out of view, preferably in the trunk of the vehicle.  And, as always, the Sheriff's Office asks that citizens help by reporting any suspicious persons or activity in their neighborhood.  Thank you!

This is a message from the Polk County Sheriff's Office.  On 10/07/08, a convenience store in your area was the victim of a theft.  During the incident, a specific type of lottery tickets were taken.  They are green in color, named "Goldrush Doublers" and are twenty dollars in face value.  The Sheriff's Office is asking for your help in identifying and recovering these tickets.  In the event you are working and after scanning a ticket it identifies as stolen please contact law enforcement immediately at 534-6200.  Not only is law enforcement looking for the tickets but also the identification of anyone who attempts to pass these tickets for winnings.   Please do not attempt any action yourself; however, do write down the date/time and physical description of the person and possibly a name.  Please pass this information along to your co-workers.  Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office would like to inform you that there has been a water main break in the Mount Olive Waste Water Treatment Plant. Residents in the area of Mt. Olive Road both north and south as well as Mt. Olive Shores are cautioned to boil water before drinking it or using it to cook. The break is being fixed and no contamination is expected but still, residents are encouraged to follow this procedure.

The Polk county Sheriff’s Office would like to inform you that there has been an increase in vehicle and residential burglaries in the Babson Park area since the latter part of May and the beginning of June. Please take a moment to secure your vehicles and residences as well as any other valuables. Please report any suspicious activity or persons in your area to the Sheriff’s Office at 533-0344 so a deputy can respond immediately to investigate. Thank you for your attention in this matter.

Hi I’m Sheriff Grady Judd. With the school year ending please drive cautiously and watch out for our children because they will be out in our neighborhoods playing. Also please remind your children to swim only when supervised and to use personal flotation devices when having fun on the water. Sadly children will drown this summer in Florida.
