On September 13, 2006, members of the HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area) Task Force seized nearly one pound of ice (methamphetamine) from two Mexican nationals who drove to Polk County from Atlanta, Georgia. At approximately 8:30 p.m. yesterday, two men arrived at the parking lot of the Home Depot located at 2000 8th Street NW in Winter Haven, driving a green 4-door Mazda bearing a Georgia license tag. Undercover detectives were waiting for the vehicle to arrive at that location based on earlier information they had received.
A search of the vehicle revealed a Tupperware container in the back seat containing 366.3 grams of ice. The two men, identified as Zeferino Flores Gallegos, DOB 5/6/75, of 30324 Lenox Road in Atlanta, and Martin Gonzalez Juarez, DOB 7/27/74, of 490 Windy Hill Road #104 in Marietta, were interviewed by HIDTA detectives. The detectives determined that both suspects are illegal aliens from Mexico who had been residing in the Atlanta, Georgia area. Both suspects admitted, in separate interviews, that they drove from Atlanta to Polk County in the early morning hours of September 13th to deliver the ice.
Juarez and Gallegos were later transported to the Polk County Jail without incident where they have both been charged with Trafficking in Methamphetamine (over 200g) and Conspiracy to Traffic Methamphetamine. They will be held without bond for ICE (Immigration and
Customs Enforcement) officials.
