Polk County Sheriff’s Purchasing Section Earns Another National Accreditation Award

In 2002, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office became the first law enforcement agency in the United States and Canada, and the first governmental agency in Polk County, to earn accreditation from the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing (NIGP). Every three years the members of the PCSO Purchasing section must re-certify for accreditation. This year, PCSO earned its third NIGP Outstanding Agency Accreditation Achievement Award, which goes into effect in 2008, as documented in a recent letter and award sent to Sheriff Grady Judd by NIGP.

There are two accreditation tiers offered within the NIGP program. The Agency Accreditation Achievement Award is presented to those agencies demonstrating excellence in public procurement. However, the Outstanding Agency Accreditation Achievement Award that the Polk County Sheriff's Office has earned three successive times recognizes those agencies who lead the public procurement profession. Additionally, PCSO’s Purchasing members belong to the Mid-Florida chapter of NIGP, which also just received the NIGP Outstanding Small Chapter of the Year award.

Sheriff Grady Judd will present the members of the Purchasing Section with the NIGP award at a monthly staff meeting at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, September 10, 2007, in the training room of the Central County Jail. The media and public are invited to attend.

Sheriff Judd said, “The members of our agency truly represent a tradition of excellence. The fact that we have earned seven separate professional accreditations agencywide is a testament to the quality and professionalism of our members. I am so proud of our Purchasing section - they work hard every day to provide high quality equipment and supplies for our deputies at the lowest cost possible to our citizens. They deserve this recognition.”
