Georgia Felon Charged with Attempted Murder of PCSO Deputies

Sunday evening, November 4, 2007, Polk County Sheriff’s deputies responded to River Ranch Hunt
Club, 18550 County Road 630, Lake Wales after receiving information that a man who had warrants
out of Pickens County Georgia was staying at one of the campsites.

The suspect, Christopher Edward Brown, alias Christopher Edward Holman, DOB 11/3/1972, 4361
80th Avenue, Pinellas Park Florida, was wanted for Child Molestation and Aggravated Sodomy
Charges. Brown was expected in court to face those charges in Pickens County and failed to show
up. It was learned that Brown leases property at the hunting club and was staying at his campsite.

Polk County Sheriffs deputies Joseph Murphy, and Shannon Rimes, arrived at River Ranch and
made contact with a hunt club representative who confirmed that Brown was staying at his property
and then drove deputies out to the remote area. The campsite is #1929 River Ranch Hunt Club.

Deputies Murphy and Rimes, in uniform, identified themselves and told Brown he was under arrest.
Brown then jumped up from a campfire he was sitting near and ran into his cabin. Deputies and a
witness hear Brown from inside the cabin say, “I have a gun! I’m coming out shooting!”
Within a few seconds of his statement, at approximately 8:20 pm, Brown came out of the cabin and
fired at deputy Murphy, who retuned fire. Brown then ran into the woods and as he was running
fired a second shot at deputy Rimes, who also returned fire.
Brown continued to run into the dense brush and deputies Murphy and Rimes called for additional
units to respond. When back up units arrived, a search of the area was conducted and Brown was
found and taken into custody at approximately 9:45 pm.

Brown confessed to his actions and apologized saying he was afraid of going to jail in Georgia.
Brown is charged with Two Counts of Attempted Murder of a Law Enforcement Officer.
Deputy Joseph Michael Murphy is 39 years of age and is a 15 year veteran of the PCSO. Deputy
Murphy is assigned to the East Division Patrol Unit.
Deputy Shannon James Rimes is 28 years of age. He too is assigned to the East Division Patrol
and has been with the PCSO for 2 years.
The incident is still under investigation at this hour.
