Polk County Sheriffs Office, Southwest District, detectives are seeking information in which 76 gravestones were pushed off their foundations at the Fitzgerald Cemetery, located at 44 Jay Street, near Lakeland.
The caretaker of the cemetery, William Pollock, found the damage just after 8 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 16, 1996. Earlier in the morning around 12:30 a.m., a nearby resident had reported to deputies observing several juveniles running through the cemetery.
Damage to the gravestones is estimated at approximately $4,000.
A reward of up
to $1,000 may be awarded for information leading to the
arrest or indictment of a suspect or suspects. Anyone
