Polk County Sheriff’s Office Northwest District Det. Michael Allsopp is seeking information on an investigation in which five suspects committed an armed robbery of two store clerks at Paul’s Wesco, located at 2340 Old Tampa Highway, near Lakeland. At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 1996, the two clerks had closed the convenience store and were walking toward their vehicle when a mid-80s grey four-door Oldsmobile drove up and four suspects exited.

After displaying a handgun and knife, the victims were commanded to give up money to the suspects. The perpetrators then fled in the vehicle westbound on Old Tampa Highway.

All five suspects are described as being black males in their late teen’s or early 20s. One suspect is described as being 5'8" tall, weighing 135-140 pounds and was wearing a dark shirt and shorts. A second suspect, who was wearing a knit ski-mask on his face, is described as being 6' to 6'2" tall, weighing 140-145 pounds and was wearing a multi-colored shirt and baggy blue jeans.
