Eagle Lake Police are seeking 33-year-old Joseph Leslie Travis on charges including Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting an Officer With Violence, Possession of Cocaine, Petit Theft, Felony Causing Bodily Injury and Escape.

At approximately 1:15 a.m. on April 10, 1997, Eagle Lake Police stopped Travis, who was driving a grey Pontiac, in the area of Eagle Avenue and Third Street. Following giving a false name, the suspect was placed under arrest. Travis pushed Officer J.R. Perry as handcuffs were being placed on the suspect. Travis, who had one handcuff on his left hand, fled on foot after stealing the officer's flashlight. A foot pursuit ultimately proved unsuccessful with Travis fleeing into a dark wooded area. Officer Perry received several minor cuts and abrasions during the incident.

Travis is described as being 6' tall, weighing about 160 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes. He also goes by the nickname, "Buddy."
