Bernardo Perez (deceased suspect)

Polk County Sheriff's Office, Central District, detectives are seeking information on an armed home invasion that left one suspect deceased and a second suspect sought.

At about 11:15 p.m. on June 4, 1997, two Mexican males knocked on the front door of the residence of 82-year-old Cayetana Martinez, located at 113 Fifth Street, in Eloise. Following a discussion over the retrieval of personal possessions by one of the suspects, the two men kicked down the front door of the elderly man's residence.

There was an exchange of gunfire between the suspects and Martinez. During that exchange 29-year-old Bernardo Perez was shot and killed. The second suspect fled on foot in an easterly direction toward Snively Avenue. He is described as being 5'5" to 5'6" tall with a thin build. He has brown eyes and was clean shaven. His black hair is short in the front and longer in the back. The suspect is believed to be armed and may have sustained a gunshot wound.
