Polk County Sheriff's Office East Region detectives are seeking a Hispanic male suspect for his involvement in the shooting of a 49-year-old Dundee man who had been helping a local pawn shop owner on Friday, October 31, 1997.
At approximately 11:30 AM, Fredrick VanPatten was shot and robbed by two male suspects. Follow up investigation revealed the suspects were Jimmy Perez, 19, and Jose Pagan, 14. A third suspect, Jimmy Jewel, 25, who was the get-away driver, was arrested late Wednesday (November 5, 1997) afternoon. The juvenile was arrested on Tuesday, November 4, 1997. All three suspects have either been charged or is being sought on charges including Att. Murder, Armed Robbery and Aggravated Assault.
Perez is described as being 5'4" tall, weighing about 160 pounds. This photograph is from his last book-in to the Polk County Jail in 1996, when he weighed approximately 30 pounds heavier. Since the Halloween armed robbery, detectives have learned that Perez has shaved his head and may be trying to conceal his identity.
Perez should be considered extremely dangerous.
