Suspect Sought: Armed Robbery

SuspectPolk County Sheriff's Office, Robbery Unit, detectives are seeking information on a suspect believed to have been involved in seven armed robberies that have occurred at convenience-type stores, near the Jan Phyl Village area near Winter Haven, during the daytime hours within the last three weeks.

In all cases the suspect entered the store, checked it for customers and/or clerks, and brandished a firearm from under his T-shirt. After robbing the clerk of money from the cash register the suspect fled on foot. No shots have been fired and none of the store clerks have been injured.

He is described as being a white male, possibly Hispanic, in his 20s or 30s. The suspect is about 5'9" tall, weighing 150 pounds. He has black or dark brown hair and wears dark sunglasses. A beard, possibly fake, was worn in the first two armed robberies.

Sept. 7, 1998 2:30 p.m. Smart Shop 2622 Ave. V NW, Winter Haven
Sept. 8, 1998 11:55 a.m. Del's Go and Shop 14 Coleman Road, Winter Haven
Sept. 15, 1998 1:15 p.m. EZ Food 1005 E Lake Alfred Drive (US Hwy. 17/92),Lake Alfred
Sept. 17, 1998 10:55 a.m. Shop Smart 1458 42nd St. NW, Winter Haven
Sept. 19, 1998 2 p.m. Super Fine Foods 1450 Lake Shipp Drive SW, Winter Haven
