Suspect Sought in Robberies
Polk County Sheriff's Office Robbery Detectives are seeking to identify a suspect responsible for at least two convenience store armed robberies. The first armed robbery occurred May 29, 1999 at 6:40 p.m. at the Amoco Station located at 3555 Havendale Boulevard in Winter Haven. The second robbery occurred the next day (May 30) at 6:45 p.m. at the Joy American Food Store located at 3151 US Highway 98 South in Lakeland. In both robberies, the suspect--wearing a stocking mask over his head and armed with a handgun--entered the store and demanded cash from the cashier before fleeing the scene. The suspect's photograph (left) was captured by a surveillance video camera during one of the armed robberies. He is described as a white male in his 30s, 5'5" to 5'7", 150 pounds, with blonde/brown hair. He has a large tattoo on his left arm.
