Suspect Sought in Bank Robbery Captured!
Polk County Sheriff's Office Robbery Detectives are seeking to identify a suspect responsible for a bank robbery which occurred December 23, 1999 at the First Union Bank located at 6108 Highway 98 North in Lakeland. The investigation has revealed the suspect entered the bank and passed a note, leaving with an undetermined amount of cash. Once outside, a red dye pack exploded which may have caused the suspects' skin to burn or become stained red. The suspect did not display a weapon and no one was injured during the robbery. The suspect is described as a white male with short hair, 5'8 to 5'10, 150 to 170 pounds last seen wearing an Addias baseball cap, grey Nike t-shirt, jeans and black Sketchers. The suspect fled the scene and was last seen in the heading north on Highway 98 in a light brown or yellow, early 90's model Ford Thunderbird. Witnesses at the scene said there was damage to the rear bumper of the vehicle. The suspect's photograph was captured by a surveillance video camera during the armed robbery.
