Suspect Sought: Animal Cruelty
Polk County Sheriff's Office Agricultural Detectives are investigating a cruelty to animals case in which numerous cats may have been poisoned in a Lakeland neighborhood. In the last few weeks, neighbors have reported that at least seven cats have died in the Sweetwater Road area of Lakeland. At least one death of a Tonkinese cat has been confirmed as the result of poisoning from antifreeze. Detectives believe that someone is deliberately poisoning cats in the area by putting out cat food with antifreeze in it. Detectives are requesting assistance in locating possible suspects. Anyone with information who wishes to remain anonymous and be eligible for a $1,000 reward is asked to call Polk County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-226-TIPS.
