Information Sought on Attempted Kidnapping

The Polk County Sheriff's Office is seeking information about an attempted kidnapping which occurred Sat. April 1, 2000 in the Lakeland area. Between 8:15 - 8:45 p.m. the victim, who is described as a white woman, 25 years of age from Polk City, was traveling south on State Road 33 about 1/2 mile south of Interstate 4 when she pulled off onto the right of way due to car trouble. While the victim was putting water into her radiator, the suspect pulled in behind her to offer assistance. The suspect then grabbed the victim and attempted to drag her to his vehicle. The victim broke free and returned home where she called the Sheriff's Office. The suspect is described as a heavy set, white male in his 30's, and about 5'11”. He was last seen driving a full size, blue pick-up truck. Anyone with information on the identity of this suspect or vehicle is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-226-TIPS. Also, anyone who might have seen the vehicles on the side of the road should call Detective Wilkinson with the Polk County Sheriff's Office at 534-5009.
