Polk County Sheriff's Office Homicide Detectives are searching for up to four suspects believed to be involved in Tuesday night's shooting death of 53-year-old Victor Hood of Winter Haven. The fatal shooting occurred at approximately 10 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2000, in the parking lot of a Subway located in the Village Plaza, 2866 Recker Highway, in the Winter Haven area. Investigation has revealed that shortly before the shooting victim was discovered in the parking lot, two masked black male suspects had approached the nearby Subway sandwich shop and attempted to enter, but the business was locked. Witnesses at the scene told investigators that three or four black suspects were seen driving away from the scene in a light blue Buick (which was later recovered near the scene.) Detectives believe the attempted robbery of the Subway and the fatal shooting are related, and are seeking any information that may lead to the identity of the suspects. The two suspects who approached the Subway are described as in their early 20s, with medium builds. One suspect is approximately 5'7, with very dark skin, and the other is approximately 5'9.
Anyone with information who wishes to remain anonymous and be eligible for up to a $1,000 reward is asked to call Polk County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-226-TIPS.
