| Polk County Sheriff’s
Office robbery detectives are seeking the public’s help in finding an
escaped convict, David Earl Melvin, DOB 9/28/78, wanted for his involvement
in an armed robbery that occurred on November 27, 2001, at the Marathon Food
Mart located at 5900 Lucerne Park Road in Winter Haven.
David Melvin fled the area in a stolen
vehicle, but thanks to an anonymous tip to Crimestoppers, he was found and
apprehended by Sampson County Sheriff’s deputies in Clinton, NC, on February
1, 2002. He was sentenced to one year in NC State Prison for fleeing
to elude a law enforcement officer, but escaped from the county jail on
April 22, 2002. He currently has several active Polk County warrants
for his arrest, for armed robbery and battery. Melvin’s accomplice,
Kevin Germaine Lee, DOB 7/13/75, was arrested on August 22, 2002, and
remains in the Polk County Jail.
Melvin,
seen in photo here, has recently been spotted in the Haines City and
Lake Alfred areas. He is considered ARMED AND DANGEROUS.
