Polk County Sheriff’s Office Robbery detectives are seeking
the public’s help in finding David Burks, DOB 7/20/81, wanted for his
involvement in three armed robberies. The first robbery occurred on
August 4, 2002, at the Howard Johnson Inn located at 33224 U.S. Hwy 27 N in
Davenport; the second on August 11, 2002, at the Howard Johnson Inn at
1300 3rd Street SW in Winter Haven (Winter Haven P.D. case); and the third
on August 12, 2002, at the First Union National Bank at 5720 Cypress Gardens
Blvd in Winter Haven.
David Burks fled the area after the robberies, but two of his accomplices,
David Melvin and Stacey Sawyer, have been apprehended and are currently in
the Polk County Jail.
Melvin
has recently been spotted in the Jacksonville area. He is described as
5’6”, 160 lbs., and his last known address was 344 Ruby Lake Loop in Winter
Haven. He has a felony warrant for his arrest for Armed Robbery of a
Bank.
