County Sheriff's Office Robbery Detectives are seeking the public's help in
finding 2 robbery suspects. On December 29, 2002, around 1:00 a.m., 2
black male suspects entered the Denny's Restaurant at 44111 U.S. Hwy 27 in
Haines City armed with handguns with the intent of robbing the
establishment. The manager, 40-year-old Willy Smith (DOB 9/5/62), of
6210 Dove Crest Trail in Lakeland, was shot twice during the robbery and was
transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center where he is in stable
condition. The suspects then fled northeast on foot and eventually
drove off in an unknown type vehicle.
The suspects are described as black males, one about 6'1", and the other a little shorter, both with stocky builds, both wearing black or dark blue tops, black baggy pants, gloves, and white "masks" over their faces that looked like pillowcases with holes cut in them for eyes. Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact PCSO Robbery Detective Richard Davis at 1-800-226-0344. Anyone wishing to
remain anonymous and be eligible for a cash reward should contact Polk
County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-226-TIPS. ANONYMITY IS GUARANTEED! |
