Polk County Crime Stoppers
Polk County Sheriff's Robbery detectives are seeking information about a personal robbery that occurred on June 29, 2003. That morning, around 3:50 a.m., the victim was approached by an unknown black male, who offered to pay the victim $10.00 to drive him around Polk County in search of his "wife".  The two men drove through the Lake Alfred, Auburndale, Winter Haven, and Bartow areas, and eventually stopped for gas at the Cumberland Farm Store on U.S. 17 & Bomber Road in Bartow (surveillance photo from the store).

Shortly after leaving the store, the suspect directed the victim to drive him "home" and they ended up at the end of Morris Drive in Bartow.  At that point, the suspect pointed a black revolver at the victim and demanded he exit the vehicle.  A short struggle over the gun ensued, and both men fell out of the vehicle.  The suspect gained control of the victim, pointed the handgun at him again, and told him to run, at which time the victim fled.  The suspect then drove off in the victim's vehicle, a red Dodge Neon, which was recovered the next day in Winter Haven.

The suspect, seen wearing the light-colored shirt in the forefront of the photo is described as approximately 30 years old, 5'8" or 5"9", 135-150 lbs., with facial hair and sideburns.  If you know his identity or have any information about this crime, please contact Robbery Detective Travis Avery at 863-534-6379.
