Information Sought: 17 Year Anniversary of Unsolved Homicide

Polk County Crime Stoppers
Polk County Sheriff's cold case homicide detectives are still seeking information about a homicide that occurred 17 years ago this Monday.

On October 27, 1986, LRMC nurse Theresa Lee Scalf, DOB 6/13/57, was found brutally murdered inside her duplex apartment at 1305 Fairway Drive in Lakeland.  The last person to speak with Theresa was her mother, Betty Scalf, when Theresa phoned her around 2:20 p.m. that day and asked her to pick up her 7-year-old son from school.

It was routine that Betty would retrieve her grandson from school and keep him overnight on the nights Theresa worked - such was the case on this particular day.  When Theresa did not come by to see her son before going to work that evening, as was her custom, Betty became concerned and drove to Theresa's house.  There Betty found her daughter dead from multiple  injuries on the living room floor.  Detectives found no forced entry into the home.  Her death remains a mystery, although detectives continue to follow up on any leads on this case.
