Polk County Sheriff's Office Robbery Unit detectives are searching for a suspect  - often referred to as the "Beer Belly Bandit" - in a bank robbery that occurred this morning (Friday, Feb. 28, 2003), at the Bank of America located at 2536 Highway 92 East in Lakeland.  At approximately 10:30 a.m., the suspect entered the bank and waited in line. Upon reaching the teller, the suspect put a bag on the counter and pulled a handgun out of it and demanded money from the teller. The suspect then fled with an undisclosed amount of money in a gray two-door Buick Riviera with tag T81PRG (reported stolen in Manatee County). The suspect was last seen traveling west on US Highway 92. He is described as a Hispanic male,  with band-aids on his face and arm., 5'5 to 5'6, 170 to 180 pounds, with dark hair and a mustache (hair possibly is a wig). He is believed to be the same suspect  known as the "Beer Belly Bandit," who has been linked to at least 25 robberies throughout Central Florida. Detectives are seeking any information that may lead to his arrest.  Anyone with information who wishes to remain anonymous and be eligible for a cash reward is asked to call Polk County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-226-TIPS.
