Polk County Sheriff's Office deputies are seeking information on the whereabouts of Jaimie Davis, DOB 4/1/1986, after he fled authorities early today, Sunday, January 4, 2004, and attempted to run over a Deputy Sheriff with the vehicle he was driving.
Just before 3:00 a.m. D/S Douglas Chaney, on routine patrol in the Northeast District, attempted to stop a red Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck with two people inside and several items in the bed, for acting suspicious after leaving the 7-11 at Spirit Lake Road & Recker Hwy in Winter Haven. The truck immediately fled, and D/S Chaney initiated pursuit. The pursuit went northbound on Recker Hwy, to westbound on US Hwy 92.
D/S Justin Kranitz deployed stopsticks at 92 & Old Dixie Hwy, in attempt to stop the fleeing suspects. However, when the truck neared the stopsticks, the driver aimed the vehicle directly at D/S Kranitz in attempt to hit him. D/S Kranitz fired 2 shots from his agency-issued sidearm at the vehicle, one of which struck the truck. The truck continued to flee, at speeds of 90-100 MPH, down Combee Road, onto southbound US Hwy 98 into Bartow. At least 6 attempts with stopsticks were made in order to stop the fleeing vehicle, and all of the attempts were evaded by the suspect.
Once in Bartow, the truck, which was still being pursued by PCSO deputies and a helicopter unit, eluded stopsticks again. At 3:10 a.m. the truck turned onto Manor Street, came to a slow roll, and the driver, later identified as Jaimie Davis, ran from the truck. His passenger, brother Christopher Lee Davis, DOB 4/6/85, was arrested. Christopher was booked into the Polk County Jail on a charge of Indirect Civil Contempt. The truck had one shot through the passenger window, but the passenger was not injured. The bed contained several car tires. The truck is not stolen, but does not belong to Jaimie Davis. The owner of the truck is also wanted for an arrest warrant.
Jaimie Davis is described as a black male, 5'10", 170 lbs., and his last known address is 1715 Martin Luther King Blvd. in Bartow. He already has a warrant for his arrest for Probation Violation on prior charges of Trespassing, Giving False Name to an LEO, Burglary, and Cocaine Possession. Once apprehended he will be charged with Attempted Murder on a Law Enforcement Officer.
