Polk County Crime Stoppers
Polk County Sheriff's Office Robbery Unit detectives are searching for two suspects wanted in a armed bank robbery that occurred this morning (Monday, Feb. 9, 2004) at the American Bank and Trust located at 70 Deland Drive in Indian Lake Estates near Lake Wales. At approximately 7:55 a.m. this morning, two suspects (one armed with a handgun) broke  through the glass front door of the bank (which was closed at the time) and forced two employees into the bank safe. Prior to locking the employees in the safe, the suspects demanded the vehicle keys from one of the employees. The suspects then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash through a back door and took off in the employee's vehicle, a 2001 Chevy Suburban.

The suspects abandoned the stolen vehicle about a mile away from the scene. The two Hispanic male suspects are described as:

  • suspect #1: 5'9 with a stocky build, clean cut, wearing a ball cap and khaki type of uniform, and armed with a handgun;
  • suspect #2: 5'2 with a thin build, wearing sunglasses and a khaki type of uniform with a plaid shirt.

Both suspects appeared to be wearing fake mustaches. Detectives are seeking any information that may lead to the arrests of the suspects.
