Polk County Sheriff's Office Homicide Detectives are searching for two suspects wanted for First Degree Murder in the beating death of 32-year-old Lakeland resident Jose Antonio Gonzales.

Nicholas Lane

Christopher Lehning

Matthew Dunaway

Arrest warrants for First Degree Murder have been issued for Nicholas Lane, DOB 2/3/82, of 816 29th Street NW in Winter Haven and Christopher Lehning, DOB 4/26/85, of 2812 21st Street NW in Winter Haven. A third suspect, Matthew Dunaway, DOB 4/24/87, of 2429 Ave. B SW Apt. A in Winter Haven, was arrested Monday.

The three suspects are charged with the murder of Gonzales, whose body was found early Saturday morning (July 3, 2004) in the trunk of his vehicle at a Winter Haven boat ramp. Detectives believe that an ongoing dispute between the victim and suspects ended in violence the evening of July 2, when the suspects beat the victim to death with a baseball bat at a residence located at 720 28th Street NW in Winter Haven. They then wrapped the victim's body in a blanket and put him in the trunk of the car and abandoned the vehicle at the boat ramp. Detectives are seeking any information about the possible whereabouts of the wanted suspects.
