Polk County Sheriff's Office Property Crimes detectives are seeking information about a business burglary that occurred the weekend of Hurricane Jeanne, September 25-26, 2004.

At around 9:15 p.m. on Sunday, September 26th, deputies responded to an alarm at Performance On Wheels, 5205 North Frontage Road in Lakeland. There they found the business had been broken into. Entry was gained when a vehicle rammed open the gates and the suspect(s) broke the overhead bay doors of the business. Three dirt bikes were taken, and in the process of the burglary, several large trailers, 2 dirt bikes, and two 4-wheelers were
damaged.

Twenty minutes after the burglary occurred, a motorist traveling westbound on I-4, just east of Hillsborough Ave.  in Tampa, crashed into one of the stolen dirt bikes, which appears to have fallen off of a truck or trailer after having been stolen. Several hours after the burglary, the business was again broken into, although nothing was taken on this second attempt.
