Polk County Sheriff's Traffic deputies are seeking information about a fatal hit and run crash in which a pregnant 34-year-old Davenport woman was struck and killed.
On Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at 7:45 p.m., a red newer model Ford Explorer traveling northbound on U.S. 27 in Davenport approached the intersection with Polo Park Blvd. and left the roadway onto the right grass shoulder of the road to go around a semi tractor-trailer into a Kangaroo store/gas station. When it left the roadway it struck and killed the female pedestrian. The Explorer continued on into the store and pumped gas. The truck driver who witnessed the crash confronted the driver of the Explorer and told her that she had hit someone, which she denied. The driver then fled the gas station going southbound on U.S. 27.
The driver of the Explorer is described as a white female, small-framed, thin build, with blond hair, in her late 20s to early 30s. The Ford Explorer has significant visible damage to its front end, with broken headlights. Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact the Polk County Sheriff's Office at 863.533.0344.
