Polk County Sheriff's detectives are seeking information about two copper wire theft suspects who were seen tampering with Tampa Electric (TECO) wires on Thursday, May 1, 2008.

Around 1:30 p.m. that afternoon, two white male suspects can be seen on video surveillance removing ground wires that contain copper from the TECO substation located at CR 640 and Pebbledale Road south of Mulberry. These suspects could have caused a significant amount of damage to the transformer and caused a power outage across Polk County. Detectives believe they stole the copper wire in order to sell and profit from it. Photos of the suspects can be seen here and on website www.polksheriff.org.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Det. Ian Rylott at 1-800-226-0344 or (863) 499-2400.
