Polk County Sheriff's Homicide detectives are seeking the public's help in solving a home invasion robbery and homicide that occurred sometime between the hours of 5:30 p.m. New Year's Eve, December 31, 2008, and 9:15 a.m. New Year's Day, January 1, 2009, at 7931 Indian Heights Drive in north Lakeland.

During that time frame, unknown person(s) entered the home of 93-year-old Walter Farley while his son and daughter-in-law were out for the evening celebrating the holiday. When Mr. Farley's son and daughter-in-law returned home on January 1st, they found that Walter had been fatally shot multiple times. It was apparent that a struggle ensued between Mr. Farley and whomever is responsible for his death, and that a home invasion robbery also occurred.
