At approximately 12:12 pm, Monday, February 09, 2009, a Winter Haven man was driving his 1999 red Kawasaki motorcycle northbound on Recker Highway, Winter Haven.  At the same time a teal, late 80s, early 90s, Ford Aerostar Van, traveling south on Recker Highway, attempted to make a left turn east onto Avenue G.

The driver of the van turned in front of the motorcycle, striking it, and causing the motorcycle to skid off the road, eventually coming to rest on the northeast side of the road.  The vehicle then fled the scene east on Avenue G.

The motorcycle operator was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition.
