Polk County Sheriff's Traffic deputies are seeking the public's help in identifying a vehicle that struck an Eloise man as he walking alongside Snively Avenue on Sunday, June 7, 2009.

Around 2:12 a.m. that morning, the victim, Pedro Salas, DOB 6/29/63, was walking with his son and two other people on the sidewalk on the south side of Snively Avenue when he left the sidewalk to go across the street to his home located at 403 Snively Avenue in Eloise (Winter Haven). As he entered the roadway, he was struck by a red truck heading westbound. The front of the truck knocked Salas to the ground, while the back tires of the truck rolled over Salas, causing life-threatening injuries. The truck did not stop after striking Salas, but instead fled the scene. Salas is in critical condition at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.

The suspect vehicle is described as a red full-size truck, possibly a Ford F-series or a Nissan Titan, driven by a man of an unknown race. It was last seen driving westbound on Snively Avenue in the Eloise area of Winter Haven.

If anyone has information about this incident they are urged to contact the Polk County Sheriff's Office at 863.534.6200 or 1.800.226.0344
