Polk County Sheriff’s Office detectives are seeking the public’s help in identifying a suspect wanted in an Armed Business Robbery.

On Monday, August 8, 2011, at approximately 9:45 p.m., a black male entered the XYZ Liquor store located at 2190 US Hwy 92 in Lakeland and purchased 12 Black & Mild cigars, paying in cash. The man left the store, then returned 15 minutes later, asking the clerk for a bottle of gin. When the clerk opened the cash register to complete the sale, the black male suspect demanded the money from the register and hit the elderly female clerk in the head with a dark colored handgun. The gun discharged after the suspect struck her with it, but fortunately the clerk was not shot.

After removing an undisclosed amount of cash from the register, the suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction. He is described as a black male in his 30s, approximately 6’ tall, 160 lbs., wearing black pants, a T-shirt, sunglasses, and a knit cap. Detectives are completing a composite sketch of the suspect.

Anyone with information about this investigation is urged to contact the Polk County Sheriff’s Office at 863.298.6200 or Detective Kenjamin Libby at 863.287.4551.
