SHOOTING SUSPECT SOUGHT  Sought
Polk County Sheriff's detectives are seeking the public's help in identifying a suspect wanted for shooting a convenience store clerk.

At 10:10 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, the suspect (seen here in video surveillance) went into the Superway Convenience Store located at 2415 Avenue G NW in Winter Haven and told the clerk he wanted $2.00 worth of gas.  He then put a handful of coins on the counter.  The clerk and suspect exchanged words in reference to the coins, and the suspect then abruptly left the store, grabbing items and throwing them on the floor.  The clerk followed the suspect as he ran outside.

Once outside, the suspect turned around, pointed a handgun at the clerk, and shot him, striking the clerk in the shoulder.  The suspect then fled on foot, heading northbound on 25th Street NW.  The clerk was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released.

The suspect may have later gotten into a light-colored (possibly tan) four-door car, possibly a Chevrolet or Toyota.

The suspect is described as a black male, 6' tall and muscular, wearing a blue Atlanta Hawks "Pistol Pete" Maravich basketball jersey, with a number 44 on it.

"Look at the guy in this video - he has a very distinctive look, and I know that someone will recognize him.  He is a very dangerous man, shooting a store clerk for no reason.  Please help us identify him and put him in jail."  -  Sheriff Grady Judd
