DARRIUS "DJ" AUSTIN SOUGHT  Sought

Polk County Sheriff's deputies are seeking the public's help in locating 23-year-old Darrius “DJ” Austin (DOB 11/23/1990).  Austin has an outstanding warrant for Failure to Appear (original charge - burglary) and he is also a person of interest in a hit-and-run crash with serious injury that occurred on Tuesday, December 3, 2013.

Around 12:30 a.m., a Saddle Creek Corp semi-truck was heading north on Fish Hatchery Rd, crossing the intersection of Saddle Creek Rd, when it collided with a white 2013 Chevy Malibu. The collision caused the semi to jack-knife.

The driver of the Malibu, described as a slender black male with short hair, wearing a white T-shirt, fled the scene on foot. The passenger in the Malibu, who is its registered owner, 24-year-old China Harris of Lakeland, was critically injured.  Harris is in critical condition at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, and is unable to be interviewed in regards to the crash.

Deputies would like to speak with Mr. Austin to determine if he was involved in the crash.  Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Darrius “DJ” Austin is urged to contact the Polk County Sheriff's Office at 863.298.6200 or Heartland Crime Stoppers.

Attached is a recent PCSO book-in photo of Austin.  His most recent address is 244 Kings Pond Road in Winter Haven.
