At 2:42 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2008, the Polk County Sheriff's Office received a call in reference to a man found tied up and shot to death at 1024 Jacks Street in Lakeland. The man was identified as Henry Todd Bruder, DOB 9/11/77, who lives at that address. When Todd, as he is known to friends and family, did not show up to work at Advance Auto Parts, one of his coworkers went to Todd's house and found him there dead.

Missing from the residence was Dion Travis White, DOB 11/6/65, who was Todd's stepbrother, and Todd's 2005 4-door beige Nissan Altima, FL tag I44 ZIL. Just after 8:00 a.m. the next day, Sunday, June 15, 2008, White's body was found hidden under heavy brush beside railroad tracks behind the property of the house. White had also been murdered.
