The Polk County Sheriff's Office is scheduled for an on-site assessment as part of a program to maintain accreditation by verifying that the agency meets professional standards.
Administered by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), the accreditation program requires agencies to comply with contemporary professional standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services.
As part of the on-site assessment, members of the community are invited to offer comments by calling (863) 519-8230 on August 21, 2000, between the hours of 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. Comments will be taken by the Assessment Team.
Telephone comments are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency's ability to comply with CALEA's standards. A copy of the standards is available for viewing at the Sheriff's Office Executive Services Section, 1160 E. Van Fleet Drive, Bartow, Florida. Local contact is Lieutenant Paul Baggett, (863) 519-3955.
Anyone wishing to submit written comments about the Polk County Sheriff's Office's ability to comply with the standards for accreditation may send them to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement, Inc. (CALEA), 10306 Eaton Place, Suite 320, Fairfax, Virginia 22030-2201.
