Polk County Sheriff's Office Community Oriented Policing (COPS) deputies will hold a Christmas party for more than 100 children and their families on Wednesday, December 13, 2000, at 7 p.m., at the Stuart Center in Bartow.
At the party, one gift will be handed out to the children to open that night, with additional gifts being sent home to be opened on Christmas Day. The gifts were purchased with funds ($6,600) raised by the COPS Golf Tournament. Santa and Mrs. Claus will join COPS deputies in spreading Christmas cheer to the children and families.
Refreshments will include pizza and beverages. The pizzas are being donated by: Hungry Howies, Pizza Hut and Papa John's.
Earlier this year, COPS deputies selected disadvantaged families living in their COPS areas. Deputies made lists of toys and other items (such as clothing) that will be needed by those families at Christmas. Deputies then went shopping at area K-Mart stores for the gifts that will be handed out Tuesday night. Both the Winter Haven and Lakeland K-Mart stores supported the project with generous discounts.
NOTE: MEDIA REPRESENTATIVES ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND - PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES WILL BE AVAILABLE.
