Polk County Sheriff's Office deputies have filed affidavits with the State Attorney's Office charging 29-year-old Kimberly Middleton of Lakeland with trespassing, battery (domestic violence), criminal mischief and assault following a disturbance last night at the home of Sheriff Lawrence W. Crow, Jr. Middleton is Sheriff Crow's adult daughter.
Deputies determined that Middleton arrived at Sheriff Crow's residence last night around 9:50 p.m. and created a disturbance by screaming obscenities and refusing to leave. Two of Middleton's acquaintances also arrived with her and entered the home. Sheriff Crow's wife and his two grandchildren were at home at the time (Lawrence and Wanda Crow have permanent legal custody of Middleton's children.)
Sheriff Crow repeatedly asked Middleton to leave the residence as she grew more agitated and physically aggressive. During Sheriff Crow's struggle to get Middleton to leave, Middleton physically resisted by wedging herself in the door. At that time, Crow used a flashlight to push her leg out of the doorway and lock her outside. Middleton continued to scream and beat on the closed door - causing an estimated $200 damage to the door - prior to leaving the scene.
Deputies responded to investigate and determined that charges will be filed against Middleton.
"Wanda and I love our daughter Kim. Unfortunately, she has been struggling with a serious drug problem and she needs help. As upsetting and disturbing as this situation is for me and my family, hopefully it will result in my daughter getting the help she so desperately needs," Crow said.
Note to media: Sheriff Crow will be available for comment this afternoon until 4 p.m. if needed. Contact PIO Ivey to arrange.
