Lakeland Lady Charged With Filing False Reports With Sheriff's Office and Child Abuse Hotline

The Polk County Sheriff's Office arrested and charged Denley Bodkin, DOB 07/04/68, of 3435 Palm Drive in Lakeland with 2 counts of filing a false report to a law enforcement officer and 5 counts of filing a false report with the child abuse registry.

On 6/28/99 the suspect called the Polk County Sheriff's Office to report the sexual abuse of a 2-year-old female. The child was examined at Lakeland Regional Medical Center and no evidence was found.

On 10/19/99 the suspect again called the Polk County Sheriff's Office to report the sexual abuse of a 2-year-old female. The child was interviewed by a case coordinator with the child protection team and during the interview, the child did not disclose any sexual abuse.

Child Protection Services Investigators report there have been 18 calls to the Abuse Registry from 6/99-10/99 in reference to the 2-year-old female being sexually abused. Each report, which were almost identical, were found to be untrue.

Between 6/99-11/99 the 2-year-old female has been interviewed approximately 5 times by different professionals. The interviews did not reveal any sexual abuse had taken place. During the same time period, the 2-year-old has been examined by 3 different doctors at Lakeland Regional Medical Center with no physical evidence of sexual abuse found.
