Polk County Sheriff's Office members will hold a special Christmas party on Monday, Dec. 18, at 3 p.m., for a group of 40 girls who live at the Florida Sheriff's Girls Youth Villa.
A special appearance by Santa will kick off the Christmas party featuring refreshments and gifts for the Girls Villa residents, who range in age from 6-17. The party will be held at the Girls Villa, located on State Road 60 East near Bartow.
The special party was made possible by donations from Sheriff's Office employees. The Sheriff's Office "adopted" the 40 female residents for the Christmas season, with employees from all departments donating money to fund the party and the purchase of gifts.
Armed with the girls' Christmas wish lists, PCSO employees went shopping to purchase gifts for the group. Top choices on the wish lists included clothes, jewelry and make-up.
"Sheriff Lawrence W. Crow, Jr., and all of the Sheriff's Office employees were committed to making this Christmas a good one for these girls," said Sam McGuirt, president of the PCSO Employees' Association.
News media representatives are invited to cover the event.
