Polk County Sheriff Lawrence W. Crow, Jr., will present a Sheriff's Commendation to Crossing Guard Jill Cook this Friday, Feb. 4. The presentation will be at 9:30 a.m. in front of the main office of Crystal Lake Elementary School located at 700 Galvin Drive in Lakeland.
Cook was struck by a pick-up truck on Monday, Aug. 16, 1999 at a school crossing located at North Crystal Lake Drive and Lowry Avenue. Cook suffered a broken pelvis/hip, knee and leg. The driver of the vehicle, Chester Lepriol was charged with Criminal Willful and Wanton Reckless Driving and Violation of Driver's License Restrictions.
Lepriol was traveling at an estimated 46 miles per hour through the 15 mph school zone when he struck Cook. The school zone is equipped with flashing lights to warn motorists of the reduced speed and school crossing.
Also, Sheriff Lawrence W. Crow, Jr., will be attending a breakfast at Lime Street Elementary School located at 1225 Lime Street in Lakeland. The breakfast, which begins at 8:45 a.m., is being given by Lime Street Ele
mentary to recognize and express their gratitude to crossing guards in the Lime Street Elementary area.
