News media representatives are invited to attend the K-9 patrol
graduation and demonstration that has been set for 10 a.m. on Friday,
September 15, 2000 at the Burnham-McCall Training Center, located off Old
Bartow/Winter Haven Road, near Bartow.
Scheduled to graduate are:
PCSO D/S Donnie Houser with K-9 Garos
PCSO D/S Scott Billo with K-9 Fuelis
Bartow Police Department Officer Greg Rhoden with K-9 Justice
Lake Wales Police Department Officer Michael Yodonis with K-9 Cajin
Zephyrhills Police Department Officer Robert Thell with K-9 Uldo
The Polk County Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit has 19 teams; each team
consisting of a deputy sheriff and one canine. Canines are acquired
through certified importers and the team receives a minimum of 400 hours
of diverse training prior to being assigned to a patrol function. Canine
teams receive an additional 400 hours of narcotics or explosive training
to become dual certified and utilized in job specific assignments.
