Polk County Sheriff's Office K-9 Team Places Second in State at USPCA Trial

The Polk County Sheriff's Office K-9 unit participated in the United States Police Canine Association Regional Certification Trial that was held in Plant City, Florida, March 27-31, 2000. The unit members representing the Sheriff's Office include Deputy Sheriff Herb Bennet and K-9 Cezar, Deputy Sheriff Jim Bryan and K-9 Ruger, Deputy Sheriff Tonya Bussiere and K-9 Maros and Deputy Sheriff Matt Williams and K-9 Rocky.

Law enforcement canine teams from throughout the State of Florida participated in the trial. The Polk County Sheriff's Office unit placed second overall in the week long event.

The following team members received awards for their individual performance:

  • D/S Jim Bryan and K-9 Ruger placed 3rd in obedience and received national certification.
  • D/S Matt Williams and K-9 Rocky placed 10th overall and received national certification.
  • D/S Herb Bennett and K-9 Cezar placed 11th overall and received n arcotic and national certification.
  • D/S Tony Bussiere and K-9 Maros received state certification.

The is the first USPCA Trial for Deputies Bennett, Williams and Bussiere. Canines are nationally certified through the USPCA for one year.
