Sheriff's Office to Donate Surplus Truck to Lions Club Camp for the Blind

Polk County Sheriff Lawrence W. Crow, Jr., will donate a surplus pick-up truck to the Lions Club Camp for the Blind during a ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, at 6 p.m., at the Lake Alfred Lions Club facility.

The Sheriff's Office donation of the white 1987 Dodge 150 truck is in response to a request submitted by the Lake Alfred Lions Club for a surplus county vehicle to be used at the Lions Club Camp for the Blind near Lake Wales. The camp is in need of a maintenance truck for the campgrounds.

The truck has been utilized as a work vehicle at the Sheriff's Office inmate farm in Bartow, and is due for replacement. Instead of selling the truck at auction per standard procedure, the Sheriff's Office has opted to donate the vehicle to the camp.

"This is just one example of how even our youngest citizens benefit from the growing partnership between law enforcement and the community we serve," Sheriff Crow said. "I find it very rewarding to be able to make a donation that will have such a positive impact on so many deserving children."
